Who are TN Tutors?

The idea for TN Tutors began in 2010, when Becky and Rose met by chance at a toddler group with their then one and two year olds. A conversation began when they discovered they were teachers on maternity leave who had started a little 1:1 tutoring each until they went planned to go back into school. They discussed tutoring and how several of their pupils received 11+ tuition. The idea formed that there might be a market in the Tunbridge Wells area for group 11+ mock exam sessions and/or summer 11+ revision courses. The name ‘TN Tutors’ simply comes from the postcode area around Tunbridge Wells!

Over the coming year, they worked hard writing suitable material based on content in the Kent Test and then in 2011, trialled one mock exam and a revision course at St Philip’s Church in Tunbridge Wells. 11 children attended in their inaugural year yet they received some fabulous feedback. The following year, families recommended them to others and the numbers grew… Fast forward to 2023 and almost 100 children joined TN Tutors at either a mock exam or revision course! Five exam dates are now offered in two different venues.

Both Becky and Rose continue to offer 1:1 tutoring weekly in addition to their group summer sessions and mock exams, ensuring that they do not lose that personal touch with families and continue to have the opportunity to provide a supportive, friendly and nurturing learning environment, with tutoring that is tailored to each individual child.

Becky Hunt (BA Hons, PgDip, PGCE)

Becky graduated with a BA (Hons) in Geography in 1996 from the University of Kent and spent the next 7 years travelling extensively and working within the travel industry, as well as doing a Post Graduate Diploma. She completed her PGCE (Primary) and qualified as a teacher in 2003. Becky has taught every year group from Year 1 through to Year 6 in the last 20 years. She has also worked in the roles of Acting SENCO and Acting Deputy Headteacher. In September 2021, Becky left mainstream teaching to focus solely on tutoring, where she now supports up to 20 children on a 1:1 basis after school each week. Becky works with children across all of KS2, supporting children with 11+ and SATs preparation, those needing additional numeracy, literacy or SEN support and children that are home-schooled.

Becky also now works one day per week for a local history company delivering history workshops (anything from the Stone Age right up to WW2) to primary schools across Kent and East Sussex, a role that she loves. In addition, she also does GCSE and A-Level exam invigilation at a local secondary school supporting SEN pupils each year.

In her spare time, Becky is most likely to be found on a tennis court, either playing at her local club or in a match in one of the Sussex divisions. If not playing tennis, Becky can often be found curled up with a good book or planning/researching her next holiday! Becky is married with two teenage sons.

Rose Lee (B.Ed Hons)

Rose qualified from Exeter University as a teacher in 2001. She went on to teach in London at two prestigious Prep Schools where she worked in both KS1 and KS2 and latterly was the Y4 Co-ordinator.  Rose then took a break to have her family.  She first tutored in London and then, when the move South happened, she bumped into Becky when the idea for TN Tutors began.  During her break, she worked with home schoolers, KS1 that needed a boost, 11+ prep, Y5/6 ISEB preparations, SATs support and also provided Maths GCSE support.  Once both her children were settled in school, Rose went back to the classroom, initially part-time but for the past few years, she has been full time.  She has been in the classroom across the key stages right from where the magic begins in EYFS up to where all important decisions are made for secondary school.

In her spare time, Rose will generally be found on the side of a hockey pitch or rugby pitch cheering on her (now not so little) children!  Rose enjoys walks on the forest with her dog ‘Toast’, reading an action book or can be found in the gym.  Rose is married with two teenage children.
